As of late, I have been doing a lot of number crunching. I know we have always stated we are praying for a Christmas miracle....but it is looking less and less likely. Although I am still praying for the possibility of a Christmas referral, I also want to be realistic and prepare my heart for a referral between January and February.
Here's where this is all coming from...
In the last 5 baby girl referrals, the families were all placed on the waitlist in the 40's. Three of the families waited the full 10 months, and two waited 9 1/2 months.
Our numbers so far (if you have been paying attention) have been:
April (placed on list the 15th) #48
May #43
May #43
June #38
July #35
August #29
September #26 (although now #22)
So at just a little over 5 months on the waitlist, we have moved a total of 26 spots. That's an average of 5.2 spots a month. We still have 22 spots to move until we are number 1, giving us another 4 1/2 months on the waitlist, which would put us mid-January to early February.
Now...that being said....I have been encouraged by all the baby girl referrals going on right now. In fact, there is a family in the #2 spot on both the boys and girl's list right now (if you remember correctly, the girl list is always much, much, much longer....so that means there has been A LOT of movement). Word through the listserv is that this happens about every other year to a family, and is pretty rare. The extra exciting part, is we don't know the family on the #1 spot on either list, so we're kind of left in the dark! When that family gets "The Call" they have NO idea what and who God has in store for them! How exciting is that?!?!
SO! I still totally think it is possible that God will completely surprise us all and give us our Christmas baby....but I'm beginning to accept and be okay with the longer wait. But ask me again in a couple months.....if I'm going bonkers NOW, I can't imagine doubling the time!
Oh God...you have SO much to teach me about patience!

I'm so excited about the Hight's! It's just amazing! I know what you mean about Christmas. We were expecting to have Tucker home for Christmas, but that's is so unlikely. We'd have to get our referral TODAY basically. haha
We're working on being okay with our longer wait too...
I am soooo excited for you guys...I think we should welcome our precious babies home the same month that would be awesome...we will continue to pray for God's timing on your wait & strength while you wait - atleast in the meantime Monkey will keep you busy :)
When we were on the list i prayed hard for a christmas baby..We got our referral on Ethiopian christmas...guess we weren't very specific in our prayer request.
Oh I LOVE your NUMBER crunching!! Really puts a lot into perspective! How many AMAZING kiddos have come home to their families, How many more will come home and when you will be bringing your Lil MISS HOME!!! Gooooodness all the referrals lately are SUPER., SUPER exciting!! :) It's SO fun to watch everyone's stories unfold... :) YEAH GO GOD! :)

OH I am loving this number crunching. What I'm specifically seeing is that you are over halfway done with your waiting! Started at 48, now at 22? That's AWESOME!!!

You have had a lot of numbers to crunch!!! Congratulations on all the movement. I got an email from our case manager on Thursday and she said they have been busy with referrals. Keep 'em coming!!!!
